How to spot real polarized sunglasses?
How to recognize real polarized sunglasses?
To check if a pair of sunglasses is truly polarized, three simple methods are enough: the LCD screen test, the reflection test, and checking the information provided by the manufacturer.

1> The LCD screen test
The quickest way is to look at a smartphone, computer, or tablet screen through one lens, then rotate the glasses 90°.
If the lenses are polarized, the screen will significantly darken or become almost black at a certain angle. If nothing changes, the lenses are probably not polarized.
2> The reflection test
Look at a reflection on a window, a puddle of water, or a car body.
With polarized lenses, reflections are greatly reduced, offering sharper and more comfortable vision. Simply tinted lenses do not produce this effect.
3> Check the manufacturer's information
Before buying a pair of glasses, check that the product sheet or label clearly states:
- the CE marking;
- the EN ISO 12312-1 standard;
- the presence of polarized lenses;
- the sun protection category.
This information ensures that the glasses meet current standards.
The three methods are complementary
The screen test, reflection test, and checking manufacturer information make it easy to confirm that a pair of glasses is indeed polarized. They only take a few seconds and can be performed before an in-store purchase or after receiving an order.
Polarized lenses at Solar
Solar glasses equipped with polarized lenses clearly indicate this feature on their product sheet, as well as the sun protection category and UV protection level.
In case of doubt, the two tests described above make it easy to verify the effectiveness of the polarization.
In a few seconds, you can thus ensure that your pair offers the expected benefits: reduced glare, improved visual comfort, and more pleasant daily vision.
